Description

Provide internal and external communication with division staff and community stakeholders about division activities, events and programs. Coordinates promotional and informational activities to include but not limited to division print, web, social media, press, Superintendent’s Annual Report, weekly newsletters, and Parent Academy. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develops public relations and promotional materials for print, video, Web, social media, and periodic publications  

  • Coordinates with school staff to create and produce promotional and feature materials about division initiatives 

  • Coordinates external and internal communications and serves as the information liaison between the school division, news media, and community at large.

  • Prepares news releases, regular news updates, and photo opportunities on division activities, events, and programs

  • Prepares awards submissions to include but not limited to School Board Associations, National School Public Relations Association, and the Virginia Department of Education Teacher of the Year

  • Prepares the Annual Superintendent's Report for the community.

  • Attends School Board and other meetings and events and takes promotional photos for press releases and prepares materials as appropriate

  • Reviews division print materials for accuracy and grammatical correctness and assists in the development of such material to include but not limited to descriptions of budget

  • Assist with communication during or in preparation for a crisis.

  • Manage weekly division electronic newsletter (Tuesday Times)

  • Manage division electronic notification system (School Messenger)

  • Manage division website and social media

  • Serves as the division Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer

  • Coordinates division events to include, but not limited to, the SCPS Parent Academy Education Expo and Take Your Legislator to School Breakfast 

  • Maintain skills and knowledge required to be successful in this position by participating in professional development

  • Support the Human Resources Department by coordinating Google Ads and social media campaigns for recruitment

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality due to access to highly sensitive information.

  • Other duties as assigned by the superintendent and assistant superintendent

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with graphic design and video editing software, such as Adobe Suite, Canva, WeVideo preferred.

 

EMPLOYMENT:  

260 days per year, Administrative salary scale-Grade 4
